The recently released remaster of Quake II includes the base campaign, both expansions, a brand new episode and the N64-exclusive Quake II 64 campaign. Quake II on the N64 is one of my favorite FPS games so I wanted to experience it on PC with mouse and keyboard a lot and wanted to do a speedrun of it. Q: Why don't you bunnyhop everywhere? A: The Quake II 64 campaign includes physics just like they were in the N64 game. One of these physics changes made in that version is a jump delay. This means I cannot do usual bunnyhops where I just keep chaining jumps one after another because friction will make me lose all speed gained before I can do another jump. That's why my bhops are all individual jumps, each with its own pre-strafe. Q: Why don't you skip the intermission screens? A: As of recording of this run (13/08/2023), the intermissions can't be skipped in the Quake II 64 campaign. There's a specific exception in the game's code that disables intermission skipping if the level is from N64. This might be patched in the future.
