In this video, we put three 26" bass drum kits head-to-head: a Tama Star Maple from 2023 meets two vintage kits from the 1970s – a Hayman Vibrasonic and a Ludwig 3-Ply Green Sparkle Bonham Replica. The Ludwig kit was recently built from restored 1970s Ludwig 3-ply shells and inspired by John Bonham’s legendary Led Zeppelin setup. But how does this classic configuration compare to a vintage Hayman and a modern Tama Star Maple? We take a closer look at the shell constructions, drumheads, snares and cymbals before putting all three kits through their paces. So, how much has changed since the 1970s? And is a 26" bass drum kit still worth considering today? Check out the video and hear the three kits for yourself! =============================== #Drums #DrumComparison #26BassDrum #TamaStarMaple #HaymanVibrasonic #LudwigDrums #JohnBonham #Bonham #VintageDrums #DrumRecording #Drummers =============================== 00:00 Drumming Intro: Tama Star Maple, Hayman Vibrasonic, Ludwig 3-Ply Bonham Replica 01:07 Sizes and Features of the Kits 01:21 Origin of the Kits 05:52 Tama Star Maple Sound File 06:53 Different Shell Constructions 09:47 Drumheads 10:27 The Snares Used in the Video 11:06 Cymbals 11:23 Microphones / Recording Method 12:11 Ludwig Bonham Replica Sound File 13:12 Sound Characteristics of the Kits I 14:45 Hayman Vibrasonic Sound File 15:46 Sound Characteristics of the Kits II 19:01 Single Hits Comparison with All Three Kits 20:42 Playing with Snares Off with All Three Kits 22:18 Is It Worth Getting a 26“ Bass Drum Kit? We’ve chosen a different path! Our videos feature real people: musicians, FOH engineers, sound designers. With real voices, real opinions — and real sound examples. AI can cut clips or add subtitles —but it can’t replace real experience on camera. That’s why: Our content is made by humans, for humans.
