Daisy Link Murder Trial: Defendant Tells Her Story of Abuse, Shooting

Day 5: Daisy Link took the witness stand to tell her version of what happened the night she shot and killed Pedro Jimenez. This is Part 1 covering her direct examination - cross-examination will be packaged separately. Link testified Jimenez pistol-whipped her with the same gun she later used to shoot him, splitting her head open just five days before the shooting. A court order restricted Jimenez's access to their children, but Link had been violating it by allowing unsupervised visits - which is why she initially lied to police. On June 24-25, 2022, Link testified Jimenez was using cocaine (she says she saw him buying six bags). At home with her mother present, Jimenez became agitated, accusing Link of cheating. She testified he choked her multiple times, and each time her mother threatened to call police, he would leave briefly then return. After her mother left around 1:30-2 AM, Link testified she went outside to smoke. When Jimenez appeared and she admitted to cheating, she testified he grabbed her by her hair, threw her down, and said he was going to lock her out where her children were sleeping. As Jimenez ran toward her back door, Link fired one shot. She testified she aimed low hoping to scare him. She later found him collapsed, rendered aid, and called 911. Link admits shooting Jimenez as he ran away (his back was to her). She admits hiding the gun. She admits lying to police repeatedly. She admits having an affair and admitting it to Jimenez just before shooting. But she maintains she reasonably feared for her life because of his prior violence, drug use, and threat to barricade her outside where her children slept. Under Florida law, the State must prove beyond reasonable doubt that Link did NOT act in lawful self-defense.
