We had NO PLAN, NO GUIDE - just 2 bikes and 3 days to ride the Ha Giang Loop, Vietnam's most beautiful and dangerous road right on the China border. Starting in chaotic Hanoi, we took a $20 sleeper bus 6 hours north to Ha Giang, rented motorbikes ourselves, and rode it with no tour. We got pulled over 5-6 times, rode through Ma Pi Leng Pass, got the "Welcome to China" text at the border river, and ended it with a local dinner + happy water at Nam Dam Homestay with Anh.
