With a diploma in Junior Education and 4 years’ teaching experience, she witnessed first hand the impact of stories on childhood development. Intrigued by this, she founded ANNA EMM PRODUCTIONS in 2006, through which she would go on to write and produce more than 3000 audio stories for children, and become a household name in South Africa. Anna spent most of her career researching the use of storytelling as a tool to build mental and emotional resilience in children, and she often appeared on television and radio, speaking about the therapeutic value of fiction. In 2015 Anna won Afrigrowth’s Entrepreneur of the Year award for her children’s stories. Today – years after closing the business and moving to London – her original stories still receive thousands of downloads every month on her digital platform, and a prominent publisher in South Africa has recently signed a deal to publish large collections of these stories – both in print and audio. “… What Anna Emm has done for our youth is not only upliftment and healing, but spiritual growth… If there is one thing she understands about children, it is that they should be respected in their own right. She also understands what most of us celebrated writers have already forgotten: that, for a story to really work, it has to be, above all, FUN.” – Koos Kombuis (South African author and former anti-apartheid activist) ABOUT THE JUBILEE SERIES: Marking her 50th birthday, award-winning author Anna Emm is rewriting her personal choice of her 50 best children’s stories for the UK market.
