WHY is the Bills Defense STRUGGLING? | Carl's Corner

The Buffalo Bills defense is currently facing a major identity crisis on the back end. While the pass rush is ranking near the top of the league in pressure rate, the secondary is struggling to capitalize, leading to a massive disconnect in defensive efficiency. In this episode of Carl's Corner, we step into the office to break down the All-22 film and find out exactly what is going wrong with the Buffalo secondary. 🏈 Film Room Breakdown We start the analysis by looking at the technical struggles in man coverage. From Max Hairston’s anticipation at the top of the route to IGB’s hand stabs at the line of scrimmage, we look at how individual matchups are being lost at the point of attack. We also dive into the viral 4th and 3 play that has everyone talking, explaining the transition from press to off-coverage and why flat-footed catch technique was missing in the red zone. 📉 Zone Coverage and Communication It is not just about one-on-one matchups. We also analyze the zone coverage failures, including non-traditional cover-two looks where the Patriots found the hole shot. We look at how motion is causing confusion on the back end and why the kinetic chain of communication seems to be breaking down right before the snap. When players have their palms up in confusion before the play starts, it usually leads to an explosive play for the offense. 💡 The Path Forward To wrap things up, we discuss three specific solutions to fix this defense. Between getting healthy with key players like Christian Benford, winning competitive one-on-ones, and simplifying the defensive calls to reduce confusion, there is a clear path to improvement before the Bills face their next big challenge.
