In this 3rd video of passing sterling silver through my rolling mill to make more flat stock, you can see how the silver starts in size. Compare that to the original ingots. It's amazing how much the material can stretch when it's made thinner. It passes through the rollers about 4 or 5 times again before I repeat the annealing process and bring them back for one, final round of the rolling mill. As them metal gets thinner, it's easier to pass it through the rolling mill. I generally start with the crank at near 1 o'clock position so I can use my body weight to get the momentum going and continue cranking without stopping to prevent flat spots or ridges forming on the flat stock.
