Sri Lanka’s Historic Maiden Test Victory In the second five-day official Test match between India and Sri Lanka for the J. R. Jayewardene Challenge Trophy, Sri Lanka recorded a magnificent 149-run victory, securing their maiden Test win and setting a world record. That was how Divaina reported Sri Lanka’s first-ever Test victory. Sri Lanka’s first Test victory in their history was recorded on 11 September 1985, against India at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo. After gaining Full Member status of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1981, Sri Lanka set a world record by recording their maiden Test victory in the shortest period of time after attaining Full Member status. India, one of the giants of international Test cricket, had to wait 25 Test matches for their first Test victory. Sri Lanka, however, achieved their historic first victory in just 14 Test matches. Aravinda de Silva scored the first half-century of his Test career. His fifty came off 85 balls in 120 minutes, including one six and seven fours. Fast bowler Rumesh Ratnayake played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s historic victory. He troubled the Indian batsmen throughout the match, taking 9 wickets for 125 runs and becoming one of the key architects of the victory. Following Sri Lanka’s historic win, the government declared a public holiday so that the people could celebrate the country’s first-ever Test victory. The Indo-Sri Lanka second Test became an immortal chapter in Sri Lanka’s Test cricket history. To commemorate this historic maiden Test victory, Friday the 13th was declared a public holiday for the people of Sri Lanka. Following this match, the next Test was played at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy and ended in a draw. As a result, Sri Lanka secured their first-ever Test series victory over India, winning the series 1–0. . 👉TikTok :   / divainaonline   © 2025 by Divaina Online All rights reserved.
