A wabi-sabi Zen story for anyone who has never let themselves be finished.
Tonight is about imperfection, self-acceptance, and the beauty that only cracks can hold.
A gifted potter has trained for fifteen years and has never once declared a bowl complete, because none of them is perfect. His old master finally shows him a cracked, uneven bowl he keeps above all the others. A calligrapher's single brushstroke and a seamstress mending with visible thread carry the same quiet message into sleep.
About the teaching: Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic rooted in Zen that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence and incompleteness: the worn step, the asymmetrical bowl, the fading colour. It draws on the Buddhist marks of existence, impermanence and unsatisfactoriness, and invites self-acceptance rather than the pursuit of a flawless final form.
