This hillside forest cabin is built directly against an excavated slope using stacked stone, cut log ends, timber framing, and an earth-covered roof. Its distinctive front façade remains visible while the sides, rear, and planted roof blend into the surrounding terrain, making the finished structure appear to nearly disappear into the hillside.
The construction begins with preparing and excavating the site before forming the stone base and hillside-supported walls. Timber is then cut and fitted into the main structure, followed by the round log-end façade and low roof frame. As the build progresses, the stonework, large round window, rectangular window, narrow entrance, and soil-covered roof bring the cabin together without losing the rough, handmade character of its natural materials.
From the first work on the slope to the final reveal, this project shows the complete transformation of an exposed hillside into a compact stone-and-log forest cabin. Watch the full building process to see how the structure, materials, and terrain are carefully combined into one distinctive off-grid shelter.
