James earned his BA in philosophy from Yale University and his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on emotion regulation. He has received a number of teaching awards, including Stanford’s highest teaching award, the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching. James also has received research awards from the American Psychological Association, the Society for Psychophysiological Research, and the Social and Affective Neuroscience Society.
