Quick Dovetail Tip! Hide Grooves on Through Dovetails.

Here's a method I'm using on some small boxes I'm making. Stopped grooves are a slow way to work by hand. Therefore half laps and mitres are often used to close a groove that carries through. The least favourable method is to glue in a slip of timber. Here, I simply reduce the thickness of the dovetails by the depth of the groove.
