Although listenable throughout, the sound on this video ranges from average to good but the historical context and outstanding set list, not to mention the quality of the concert itself, makes this an essential listen. Between 20 July 1971 and 9 May 1976, Elvis gave 106 concerts at The Sahara Tahoe in Lake Tahoe and the format mirrored that of his Elvis residency - an opening show followed by two shows per evening - dinner and midnight. The slightly smaller venue, a capacity of 1700 in contrast of 2200 at The International/Hilton showroom, made for a more intimate arena and Elvis always seemed more relaxed during his Tahoe residencies. Additionally the crowds seemed less reserved that in Vegas and this seemed to be reflected in the way Elvis seemed to be on stage, far more interaction with the audiences than many Vegas shows. This show is actually Elvis' tenth show during his very first residency but the first available recording of Elvis at the venue - of which only three are known to exist at time of writing.
