That girl was always you

Song was written and produced by Michelle Jakubowski for Kinsey Jakubowski 2026 And owns the rights to this song Lyrics [INTRO] Hey, Kinsey, I hope you see what I see in you. Look how far you've come, And how much more you're gonna do. [VERSE 1] I watched you walk into a brand-new place, With a little bit of fear and a brave new face. You didn't know how far your feet could go, Or how much strength was waiting in your soul. Now you're standing tall, finding your own way, Doing things you once thought you couldn't face. And every time I see you, I can tell— You're learning things about yourself you never knew so well. [PRE-CHORUS] I hope you know, when the hard days come, You don't have to prove yourself to anyone. Take a look at all the things you've made it through— That courage was always inside of you. [CHORUS] That girl was always you— Strong enough to make it through. That girl was always you— Braver than you ever knew. You can climb that wall, You can face that fear. You can find your way When the road's not clear. No mountain's too big, No dream's too far. Kinsey, don't forget Who you are. That girl was always you. [VERSE 2] They might remember things you did back then, But your mistakes don't get to say how your story ends. You are so much more than what somebody sees, And nobody else gets to tell you who to be. I see you stepping forward when you're scared, Learning how to trust the strength that's always there. And when you reach the top and turn around, I hope you see how far you've come from the ground. [BRIDGE] When you come home, bring that Kinsey home with you. Don't let old opinions change what you know is true. That place didn't make you who you are today— It gave you room to find the strength you had along the way. And if you ever start to doubt yourself again, Remember where you've been and how you made it through. I'll be right here, cheering every step you take, So proud of the person you've always been. [FINAL CHORUS] That girl was always you— Strong enough to make it through. That girl was always you— Braver than you ever knew. You can climb that wall, You can face that fear. You can find your way When the road's not clear. No mountain's too big, No dream's too far. Kinsey, don't forget Who you are. That girl was always you. [OUTRO] You didn't have to become somebody new. You just discovered The strength that was always you. And I'll always be proud of you.
