This SanDisk USB flash drive came in after a failed data recovery attempt. The connector had been completely torn off, and all four pads were missing — a situation where most would consider the data lost.
In this video, I walk through multiple professional techniques to recover data from severely damaged flash drives.
First, I show the quick-access method: jumping wires directly to the USB lines to temporarily power the drive and extract data. While this can work in some cases, it’s not reliable and can easily fail if the connections are unstable.
Instead, I take it further and rebuild the drive properly.
Using micro-soldering techniques, I reconstruct all four missing pads from scratch using copper wire and a coiling method. This creates a much stronger and more reliable connection, allowing stable communication with the controller and safe data extraction.
After that, I demonstrate an alternative recovery method I’ve used for years on SanDisk drives. This involves removing the NAND chip and using specialized TSOP48 socket adapters. These sockets replicate the original PCB footprint, allowing the memory chip to be read directly through a compatible platform — as long as the controller architecture matches.
This approach is especially useful when the original board is too damaged to repair.
