The Ta Phrom temple is located at a distance of 1 km east of Ankor Thom, the ancient capital of the Khmer empire. The temple was originally called Rajavihara when it was built by King Jayavarman VII in 1186 AD. Later its name was changed to Ta Phrom or “Ancient Brahma” as devotees believed they envisaged the face of Lord Brahma in its stone sculptures.
In modern days it is more famous as the Tomb Raider temple having been featured in the Lara Croft Tomb Raider movie.
The Temple is set deep within the forest and has large trees sprouting from within its moss-covered stones. That is what makes it all the more attractive to tourists all over the world.
In 1992, it was declared a UNESCO world heritage site and in 2013 significant parts of it were restored by the joint efforts of Archeological society of India (ASI) and Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and Region of Siem Reap (
APSARA).
This video captures our trip as we cycled through these magnificent ruins. We stood mesmerized admiring its stoic stance having withstood the ravages of time and nature and yet proudly declaring its strong presence in the yellowed pages of history.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Angkor Cycling tour who took us on this wondrous journey through time.
