What do you want? It sounds like such a simple question—until you realize you don't know how to answer it anymore.
For years, many of us have known exactly what everyone else needed. Children. Family. Work. A home. Aging parents. Responsibilities. There was always someone or something that needed our attention.
And then life begins to change.
The house gets quieter. Retirement gets closer. The roles we've carried for decades begin to shift, and suddenly we're faced with a question we haven't had much practice answering:
What do I want now?
If you're a woman in your 50s, 60s or beyond who feels a little lost in this season of life, I want to suggest something:
Maybe you're not lost.
Maybe you've simply been needed for so long that you've gotten out of practice listening to yourself.
In this video, we're putting aside the pressure to “find your purpose,” “reinvent yourself,” or figure out the rest of your life. Instead, I'm asking three much smaller questions:
What do I want more of?
What do I want less of?
What am I curious about?
Because perhaps you don't need a five-year plan.
Perhaps you just need to notice the next little thing that makes you curious.
I'm approaching this season as what I call the final quarter. We don't get to go back and replay the first quarter—but we absolutely get to decide what we do with the quarter we're in.
So after you watch, tell me in the comments:
What are YOU curious about?
I have a feeling you won't be the only woman here wondering about the very same thing.
Welcome to The Old Cozy, where we're talking about retirement, reinvention, identity, faith, purpose, starting over, and figuring out what comes next—one step at a time.
