What is a Cooling Coil? Answer -A Cooling Coil is the heart of an HVAC cooling system. It removes heat and moisture from warm air to provide cool, clean, and comfortable air inside buildings. Main Parts Copper Tubes Aluminum Fins Headers Chilled Water or Refrigerant Condensate Drain Pan Drain Pipe Air Filter Supply Fan How It Works Warm air enters the AHU or FCU. The air passes through the cooling coil. Chilled water or refrigerant absorbs heat from the air. The air temperature drops. Moisture condenses on the coil surface. Water falls into the drain pan. The drain pipe removes condensate. Cool and dry air is supplied to the room. Types of Cooling Coils Chilled Water Coil – Used in central chilled water systems. DX (Direct Expansion) Coil – Uses refrigerant directly from the outdoor unit. Applications AHU FCU FAHU Air Handling Systems Hospitals Hotels Shopping Malls Office Buildings Airports Data Centers
