Day 8: 7 Years in Canada: From New Immigrant to Financial Security Advisor | My 2021–2026 Journey

Seven years ago, my son and I migrated to Canada, sponsored by my Quebecois husband. 🇨🇦 In 2021, I was still trying to figure out my life in a new country—adjusting to winter, learning a new language, and asking myself an important question: What direction should I take next? Fast-forward to 2026, and I can see how those challenges helped reshape my mindset, my relationship with money, and eventually my career in financial security. In this personal story, I share my journey as an immigrant in Canada—from learning to appreciate snow ❄️, to struggling with French, to making the decision to study money and finances after decades of avoiding the subject. Growing up in the Philippines, I developed a complicated relationship with money. I never dreamed of becoming rich, and I once believed that money itself could bring heartbreak. But moving to Canada gave me the opportunity to step back, reflect, and realize something important: Everyone can benefit from learning how to manage, protect, grow, and responsibly use their money. Today, I continue learning about financial security, insurance, financial protection, retirement planning, and investing. I know there is still much to learn—but I believe the journey is worth it. And perhaps there is a reason God gave me the opportunity to change my perspective and keep learning. 🙏 2021 — A turning point. 2026 — A continuing journey.
