BARISTA LESSONS AT BLUESTAR TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY @ The Chapter Cafe Bluestar Tourism and Hospitality recently conducted an immersive educational visit focusing on the technical and artistic skills of coffee making, barista operations, and cocktail mixology. Designed to bridge classroom theory with industry realities, this practical excursion allowed students from the Bluestar Tourism & Hospitality Consultancy campuses to interact directly with professional equipment and learn from seasoned industry experts. KEY LEARNING PILLARS 1. Coffee Theory and Barista Fundamentals Students stepped behind the counter to explore the science and art behind the perfect brew. The training covered: Espresso Extraction: Mastering the foundational variables of grind size, dosing, tamping, and extraction time. Milk Texturing: Learning the precise temperatures and techniques required to create micro-foam for lattes, flat whites, and cappuccinos. Equipment Maintenance: Understanding the daily calibration, cleaning, and troubleshooting of commercial espresso machines and grinders. 2. The Art of Mixology & Cocktails Transitioning to the bar management side, the session introduced students to contemporary beverage service techniques: Flavor Profiling: Understanding the balance between sweet, sour, bitter, and spirit bases. Technical Execution: Building practical skills in shaking, stirring, straining, and layering ingredients. Presentation and Garnishing: Crafting visual appeal and practicing high-standard customer interaction.
