That plain little pendant tangled at the back of your jewelry box, the one you have never worn because you were never quite sure what stone is actually set into it, might be worth more than every other piece in the box combined. In this video I walk through seven old gemstone pendants that turn up constantly in ordinary jewelry boxes, dismissed as costume pieces or unmatched leftovers, when the stone set into them is very often real and worth checking properly before it ever gets sold as junk. I am Roy Danforth, and for thirty-eight years I have been buying and pricing estate sales, flea markets and antique mall booths across the Ohio Valley and the Midwest, and pendants are one of the categories where I have personally seen the most real gemstones mistaken for glass, simply because nobody ever showed the family what to look for. I will be honest with you from the start, most old pendants are exactly what they look like, costume glass in a costume setting, and I am not going to inflate that for you. But a genuine antique cut, a specific setting style, or a particular mounting metal can turn what looks like a five dollar pendant into a piece worth real money, and the test that tells the difference takes less than a minute once you know what to actually check. For every pendant on this list, I will show you what to look for in the setting, the cut of the stone, and the metal itself, so you know within a minute whether what you are holding is glass, a lesser stone, or the real thing. Do not sell anything by weight, do not assume glass just because it looks plain, until you have gone through this whole list. If you find this useful, consider subscribing, because I go through a new jewelry box every week. And stay to the end, because the pendant at number one is the one I have personally seen dismissed as junk more times than any other piece in this entire category.
