In today's episode of the "Ratchet & Clank" playthrough, we make our way through the rest of Quartu, as well as Drek's fleet, and return to Blackwater City, where we use the hologuise to earn unlimited money.
If there's one complaint that I have about this game, it's that the third act feels a bit rushed. Sure, I get that the game's trying to wind things down as the story comes to a close, but compared to Oltanis, which was a step up in terms of both level size and difficulty when compared to previous planets, Quartu and Drek's fleet feel very underwhelming, with them both being short, linear, semi-stealth sections involving the hologuise. And mind you, from a story perspective, Quartu and Drek's fleet are key story locations, with the former being introduced to us right at the start of the game when Clank was first created, and the latter more or less being Drek's base of operations.
Don't get me wrong; both Quartu and Drek's fleet are good levels that are a blast to speed through, but they would've been even better if they were a little longer. For example, on Quartu, if the game had a section in the factory where you had to platform through a production area- dodging flamethrowers, dealing with conveyor belts, fighting maintenance robots, etc.; or for Drek's fleet, having it where instead of using teleporters, the player has to make their way through swingshot sections in order to travel between the various ships.
On a different subject, if there's anything that you're looking to buy, now's the time to get it because if you try to start the hoverboard race in Blackwater City while the hologuise is active, Ratchet will be transported to the racetrack, as expected, but without the hoverboard. In this state, Ratchet can move around normally and use his weapons, including the taunter, which can break that big group of crates in the ramp portion. But here's the best part: since those crates are offscreen, the game will instantly respawn them, allowing for you to keep on collecting bolts for as long as you want. Granted, this method can be a bit time consuming, with it taking around a minute to farm 1,000 bolts, but you can't beat the reliability.
This glitch can be done much earlier in the game with the decoy glove, but I find it to be not as consistent.
