Dracula (1931): a court ordered a vampire film destroyed, the Count died before cameras rolled, and a second Dracula was filmed every night.
The man everyone expected to play Dracula died a month before filming began. Bela Lugosi finally got the role and was paid five hundred dollars a week, reportedly a quarter of what the actor playing the boyfriend earned.
Every night after the stars went home, a Spanish cast filmed their own Dracula on the very same sets. Look closely at the castle and you will spot armadillos in Transylvania. Karl Freund lit Lugosi's eyes with two tiny spotlights, and Lugosi never shows a single fang.
Lugosi became a star and a prisoner of the role. His family later lost a landmark case over his face.
And the bonus: he was buried wearing a cape, and the story behind it is not what you heard.
