Barbara Bush was the only First Lady in American history to lock her private diaries until 2053 — thirty-five years after her death. What was inside them, and why did she decide the world wasn't ready to read it yet?
This documentary tells the full story of Barbara Bush: the twenty-nine household moves behind George H.W. Bush's rise to power, the death of their three-year-old daughter Robin in 1953, a depression so severe she pulled over her car on the side of the road rather than trust herself to keep driving, and the fourteen years she spent watching a woman named Jennifer Fitzgerald move through her husband's professional life from Beijing to the White House. It is the story of a woman who said almost nothing in public — and wrote everything down in private.
This is American Dynasty. The private cost of very public power.
