Faith Evans did not comment to reporters; her position is described only as it appears in the court's opinion. CJ Wallace's Pennsylvania petition makes allegations that have not been decided. Sean Combs is not a party to any of these cases. When the Notorious B.I.G. died in 1997, Bad Boy held 50% of his songwriting under a standard publishing deal. According to The Wall Street Journal, his mother, Voletta Wallace, got that raised to 85% in the early 2000s, and the estate acquired the remaining 15% in 2020. That is where most versions of this story end. This one starts there. Notorious B.I.G., LLC — formed in 2007 by Voletta Wallace and Faith Evans — split its payouts four ways: 25% each to his mother, his widow and his two children. In March 2025, weeks after Voletta died at 78, Primary Wave's 50% stake in his recordings, publishing and likeness was announced, in a deal reported at about $100 million and valuing the estate at more than $200 million. On February 6, 2025, Voletta amended her trust, leaving Wayne Barrow as sole trustee. After her death, the court found, Evans stopped making distributions to the trust. Barrow sued in Delaware on July 2, 2025. On August 7, 2026, Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick granted summary judgment: the trust is a member of the company, and Evans's counterclaim was dismissed. A petition by CJ Wallace in Pennsylvania challenging the trust amendments is still pending.
