counter-strike has been a part of gaming culture across the balkans and eastern europe for decades.
from the internet cafés of the 2000s, to lan tournaments, community servers, no-steam builds and the weird little communities that formed around them, counter-strike became much more than just a game people played after school.
in this video, i look at how counter-strike 1.6 and counter-strike: source became so deeply embedded in gaming culture across countries like romania, serbia, croatia, bulgaria, greece and russia, and why people are still playing these games in 2026.
thanks for washing :)
