We introduce ceramic artist Yohei Nagakusa. Nagakusa's vessels are defined by their refined forms and beautifully layered glazes. Every curve, every subtle shift in color, and every detail seems to have been carefully considered. There is a quiet precision to his work, yet beneath that precision lies an extraordinary amount of experimentation. What left the strongest impression on us during filming was the depth of his dedication to his craft. In the stillness of his studio, Nagakusa works alone, patiently exploring the possibilities of form and glaze. Countless glaze tests fill his studio, revealing a process of constant experimentation, observation, and refinement. At first, his approach may seem almost excessively meticulous. But the more we observed his work, the more we began to see another side of him. A willingness to experiment, a curiosity that never seems to fade, and a quiet sense of playfulness. Drawing inspiration from the beauty of objects and techniques of the past, he continues to explore expressions that are entirely his own. Behind the seemingly effortless beauty of his vessels lie countless failures, discoveries, and years of accumulated experience. Perhaps it is precisely this long process of trial and error that gives his work such a distinctive sense of balance and depth. In this film, we intentionally keep the words to a minimum, allowing the atmosphere of his studio and the quiet rhythm of his meticulous handwork to speak for themselves.
