Making a Living in Saigon | A Civil Engineer’s Daily Life Hi, I'm Trung, a 34-year-old civil engineer living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I earn about $500 a month as a civil engineer. Whenever I have free time after work, I deliver food to earn extra income and support my family. My wife is a doctor and earns about $450 a month. She is currently on maternity leave, and during this period she only receives 50% of her salary as we prepare to welcome our second baby. We also have a beautiful little daughter who is almost two years old. Her school costs about $150 a month, and she's the biggest source of joy in our lives. Our rent is $200 a month, and after covering rent, school fees, food, utilities, and daily expenses, our budget is just enough for life in Saigon—without even counting unexpected situations.
