Why Chinese Amplifiers Are DESTROYING American Brands at Their Own Game (The Brutal Truth) American brands invented the sound of the electric guitar amp. Then they handed the job of building it to China, and China learned every part of it. This documentary traces how it happened. Peavey moved its ValveKing tube amps to China in 2005, and later its 6505 heads followed. Fender's Mustang and Tone Master Deluxe Reverb amps list China as their country of origin. A Chinese factory complex cloned the Peavey 5150 circuit outright. A Shenzhen company that started out making metronomes turned into NUX. And Changsha, in Hunan Province, once made much of the world's vacuum tube supply and is now home to Hotone. We also cover the 2019 Shuguang tube factory shutdown and Russia's 2022 tube export ban. The tariff fight from 2025 to 2026 shows why American tube amplifiers still depend on glass made overseas. Then there's the open-source Neural Amp Modeler: it challenged paid systems like Kemper and ToneX and turned the Twin Reverb and the 5150 into files that a $65 Chinese pocket box can load. Mesa Boogie and Gibson's Falcon amps are still handcrafted in Petaluma. But the badge on the front of your guitar amp no longer tells you who designed it, who built it, or where the tubes came from. #guitaramps #guitargear #tubeamp #chineseamps #fender #peavey #mesaboogie #ampmodeling #neuralampmodeler #guitartone #gearnews #guitarist
