Julija Hartig and Akim Moiseenkov: Black Rainbow Quo Vadis Homini - a Lament of longing to belong for violin, voice and live electronics Violin: Julija Hartig Live electronics: Akim Moiseenkov Julija Kovacs - voice (soundtrack) Julija Biszak - voice (soundtrack) Akim Moiseenkov: Three miniatures Live performance at November Music in Den Bosch on the 8-11-2025 Artemis Theater "Black Rainbow is created from an image of an arch connecting the past migration experience of my great-great-great-grandmother Julia Kovacs, who immigrated in 1883, with the present migration experience of my mother and me." "With Black Rainbow, I am not only presenting a personal story of my family but also a powerful reflection on migration and identity - Where are we going and where do we belong? As the voices of generations of my ancestors move into future-like sounds I raise a question of the endless cyclic character of the destiny of humankind.’ The folk song: ‘When I set into exile’ When I set out into exile, In grief, I lost my heart. Grief my heart, grief, I am without lust, My joy for life is gone. Look back, my friend Do you see my home back in the distance? I can barely see the smoulder The thin smoke colouring the sky. Bukovina what did I do wrong that I couldn't live in you any longer? If you can live in your country Don’t rush to a foreign land! I couldn’t live in my country, I hurried to a foreign land. Now my new home is foreign, Strange are the people around me. If they can't understand my words, How can they understand my sorrow? I am so desperate I will die But I still try to show good mood. I am so desperate I will die But I am still trying to show good mood, I am trying to show good humour So the others don't see my sorrow. I'm so consumed by sorrow That I barely walk on earth, I'm so covered with sorrow like the Sovár apple tree. Two or three apples grow on me Still, my branches break under the weight. When you go off to wander, Come and say goodbye to me. I'll make a bed and lay you down I'll give you a kiss and let you go. When you set out on your journey Come and say goodbye to me. I'll write you a sad letter of goodbye With it, you can go into the world. Oh my Sun, my Sun, my sweet Sun Shine brightly once more Shine brightly once more Don't shine so dimly. Oh my God, you've beaten me. Me more than anyone else. My heart hurts from inside and out Sorrow presses from both sides. Why do I live my God If I live with such sorrow? Sorrow is my lunch, Sorrow is my dinner, Grief is my every hour. Oh Lord provide me shelter I am tired of this exile, Of exile and of wandering, Of living in a foreign land.
