Pride is one of the most overlooked spiritual dangers in the Christian life. It does not always look like arrogance. Sometimes it looks like independence, self-sufficiency, or the quiet belief that you have outgrown certain temptations. And according to Scripture, that is exactly when the enemy moves.
In this message, we explore how Satan uses pride as a weapon, why he often attacks at the height of your strength rather than your weakness, and what the Bible teaches about guarding yourself against one of the enemy's most effective strategies.
We look at the life of David in 1 Chronicles 21, where Satan moved him to number Israel at the peak of his power and success. We also examine King Uzziah in 2 Chronicles 26, whose pride led him to cross a boundary God had clearly established. Both stories reveal the same pattern: pride opens the door to sin, and the consequences rarely stay contained to one person.
We also dig into James 4:6-8 and the proper order for resisting the devil. Most people want the power to resist the enemy without the posture of submission. But Scripture is clear: you submit to God first, and then you resist the devil. God gives grace to the humble, not to the self-sufficient.
How Satan targets the overconfident, why yesterday's victories do not protect you from today's temptations, how pride causes us to trust the blessing more than the One who blessed us, what it means to walk in humility rather than independence, and how to practically apply James 4:7 in your daily life.
Whether you are in a season of success or struggle, this message is a timely reminder that spiritual vigilance is not just for hard times. It is most critical when everything seems to be going well.
