Frederic Chopin: Mazurka Op. 67 No. 4 | Tender & Nostalgic
Chopin’s Mazurka in A minor, Op. 67, No. 4 is one of his later mazurkas, composed around 1846 and published posthumously in 1855. Rooted in the rhythms of the Polish mazurka, the piece feels less like a dance meant for the ballroom and more like a deeply personal reflection on one.
Its opening has a wistful, introspective quality, with a melody that seems to carry both tenderness and quiet resignation. The contrasting middle section moves into A major, briefly bringing warmth and light before the music returns to the more melancholy world of the opening.
Like so many of Chopin’s mazurkas, its beauty lies in the way something seemingly simple can hold such emotional depth—a delicate balance between dance and song, nostalgia and tenderness.
