The Garlic Is Planted! Now We Wait for Nature's Magic - Part 3

🌱 The garlic is planted, the straw is down, and now it’s time to let nature work its magic! Welcome back to Red Dragon Growers for Part 3 of my Fall Garden Cleanup & Garlic Planting Series! Today, I’m celebrating the completion of my fall garlic planting project. I planted 112 Chesnok Red hardneck garlic cloves in my 4’ x 8’ raised garden bed, carefully spacing them 6 inches apart in 16 rows of 7. After preparing the soil with aged cow manure, I tucked each clove into the earth and covered the bed with garden straw to help insulate the soil, conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and protect the garden through the colder months. This is one of my favorite aspects of gardening: understanding when to do the work and when to step aside and allow nature to take over. Beneath that blanket of straw, life continues. Roots will begin establishing themselves, soil organisms will continue their important work, and the garlic will prepare for its next growing season. Planting today. Nurturing the soil. Trusting the seasons.
