The Mithi Vav is an ancient and historical stepwell located in the city of Palanpur, in the Banaskantha district of the Gujarat state, India. History and Architecture: • The stepwell dates back to the 8th century A.D. and remains as the sole surviving relic of the rule of the Parmar Dynasty in the region. • The Mithi Vav is situated in the eastern part of Palanpur. • It consists of five stories (or levels) and can be accessed from the west. • Based on its architectural style, it is believed that the stepwell was constructed towards the end of the medieval period, although the sculptures on its walls may be older. Sculptural Details: • The walls of the stepwell are adorned with various sculptures. These include: • Images of deities like Ganesha and Shiva. • Figures of Apsaras (celestial nymphs) and Dancers (Nartyanganao). • A worshipping couple (Puja kartu yugal). • In addition to the figures, the walls also feature carvings of floral motifs (phulbutta) and geometrical shapes. Inscription: • This inscription mentions the date Samvat 1320 (A.D. 1263), providing a specific time marker for the stepwell's historical significance. A Big Thank you for providing Smooth access.
