Хижа Чумерна се намира на билото на Стара планина в подножието на връх Чумерна. На 35 километра южно от град Елена и на 27 километра северно от град Твърдица. На 12 юли 1926 година хижа „Чумерна” е открита. Така тя става третата туристическа хижа в България, след х. „Скакавица” и х. „Алеко” и първата туристическа хижа в Стара планина Хижата е част от Европейския туристически маршрут № 3, започващ от Атлантическия океан и завършващ при нос Емине. Чумерна е връх в Елено-Твърдишкия дял на Средна Стара планина с височина 1536 m. Намира се източно от Твърдишкия проход. Южните му склонове са стръмни, дълги, прорязани от дълбоки речни долини, а северните са къси, полегати, заети от букови гори. Изграден е от триаски конгломерати, пясъчници и мергели. Има находище на доломити. В по-високата част преобладават ранкери, а по склоновете – кафяви планинско-горски почви. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hut Chumerna is located on the ridge of the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina), at the foot of Chumerna Peak. It lies 35 kilometers south of the town of Elena and 27 kilometers north of the town of Tvarditsa. The Chumerna mountain hut was officially opened on July 12, 1926. It became the third tourist hut in Bulgaria, after Skakavitsa and Aleko huts, and the first tourist hut in the Balkan Mountains. The hut is part of European long-distance path E3, which starts at the Atlantic Ocean and ends at Cape Emine. Chumerna is a peak in the Elena–Tvarditsa section of the Central Balkan Mountains, with an elevation of 1,536 meters. It is located east of the Tvarditsa Pass. Its southern slopes are steep, long, and cut by deep river valleys, while the northern slopes are shorter, gentler, and covered with beech forests. The mountain is composed of Triassic conglomerates, sandstones, and marls, and there are deposits of dolomite. In the higher parts, ranker soils prevail, while the slopes are characterized by brown mountain forest soils.
