Vancouver Island Manufacturers Join Forces to Compete for Major Opportunities

Vancouver Island’s manufacturing sector is growing — and collaboration could unlock even bigger opportunities. VIATEC and the Vancouver Island Manufacturing Excellence Alliance (VIMEA) are joining forces to connect technology companies and manufacturers, strengthen workforce development and help Island businesses compete for major Canadian defence, dual-use and industrial projects. Companies such as Rainhouse Manufacturing are already adding employees and expanding capacity, while manufacturers across the Island see opportunities that may be too large for any single company to pursue alone. The goal is ambitious: build a stronger West Coast consortium where companies can combine capabilities, share solutions and compete together for billions of dollars in emerging opportunities. As Rainhouse CEO Ray Brougham puts it, this is a long-term effort — potentially a 50-year opportunity — that could make a major difference for Vancouver Island and Canada.
