The Aaronic Benediction (also called the Aaronic Blessing, Priestly Blessing, or Birkat Kohanim) is the ancient blessing God instructed Aaron and his sons to pronounce over the Israelites, recorded in Numbers 6:22–27. English (common modern translation) The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ׃ יָאֵר יְהוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וִיחֻנֶּךָּ׃ יִשָּׂא יְהוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם׃ Yevarechecha Adonai veyishmerecha. Ya’er Adonai panav eleicha vichuneka. Yisa Adonai panav eleicha veyasem lecha shalom. God concludes the instruction by saying that in this way the priests “will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them” (Numbers 6:27). This is one of the oldest biblical texts ever discovered archaeologically—portions of it appear on tiny silver scrolls from the late 7th to early 6th century BCE found in Jerusalem. It remains widely used today in Jewish liturgy (especially by kohanim) and in Christian worship as a closing benediction.
