Days 52–55 of My Grand Detour — a 112-day, 18,000-mile solo motorcycle journey across the U.S. and Canada.
What do giant redwoods, underground caves, wildfire-scarred ridges, and snowy volcanic peaks have in common? They were all part of four unforgettable days meandering through Northern California and Southern Oregon on my solo motorcycle trip.
Over 684 miles, I rode from the towering redwoods near Klamath, CA, into the heart of Oregon’s backroads—visiting three national parks, exploring a cave system, climbing to Crater Lake’s snowy rim, and riding to the coast at Coos Bay. I tackled three Butler G1 roads, crossed rivers, dodged a sinkhole, and met some truly kind people along the way.
This is motorcycle travel at its best—scenic, challenging, and full of surprise.
