Lwanda Gogwana - Umculo

South African jazz trumpeter Lwanda Gogwana's quartet at Niki's Oasis Jazz Restaurant in Newtown, Johannesburg, South Africa 5 April 2014. 'Umculo' is the Xhosa (South African language) word for music. This song is an instrumental version, while the lyrics of the song speak about a South African man who studied jazz and classical music at university and is now on a journey to use music indigenous to Africa as his source of inspiration, with the hope that he will use his heart rather than his brain when creating and performing music. Performing here at Niki's Oasis Jazz Restaurant in Newtown, Johannesburg is Wandile Molefe on piano, Tseke Malatji on electric bass and Siphiwe Kubheka on drums.
