What does it take to lead a financial services business through transformation, while building for a market that is still largely underserved? In this episode of The Executive Table, Mary Wangari Wamae continues her conversation with Tom Gitogo, Group Managing Director & CEO of Britam Holdings PLC, exploring Britam’s growth, transformation and ambition for its next chapter. The numbers tell an important part of the story. In the first half of 2026, Britam reported a 52% increase in profit before tax to KSh 3.8 billion, while insurance revenue grew 13.7% to KSh 22.4 billion. Its net insurance service result increased 36% to KSh 1.8 billion, with total assets reaching KSh 270.8 billion. These results mark a strong start to Britam’s 2026–2030 ASCEND strategy. But behind the numbers is a much bigger leadership and business story. Tom shares his perspective on what it takes to build a stronger, more agile and more customer-focused Britam: from embracing technology and innovation to expanding access, strengthening partnerships and creating solutions that respond to how Africans actually live, work and earn. The opportunity is significant. Insurance penetration in Kenya remains relatively low, and millions of people; particularly young people, informal workers and the self-employed remain underserved. Britam has been actively responding to that gap. Its microinsurance business, Britam Connect, had insured more than 4 million Kenyans by 2024 and held more than 40% of Kenya’s microinsurance market. For Tom, the opportunity is not simply to sell more insurance. It is to rethink how financial protection is designed, distributed and experienced. That means meeting customers where they are. Using technology intelligently. Building partnerships. Creating flexible solutions. And, importantly, developing African solutions for African realities rather than simply importing models designed for different markets. This conversation offers a fascinating look at how one of Africa’s established financial services groups is positioning itself for what comes next and what leadership looks like when the mandate is not only to protect what has been built, but to continually reinvent it. From stronger financial performance to deeper customer access, technology, innovation and market expansion, this is a conversation about building Britam for the future. Watch the full conversation with Tom Gitogo on The Executive Table. The opportunity is not only to grow the market. It is to help redefine how the market is served. #TomGitogo #TheExecutiveTable #Britam #Leadership #Insurance #InsuranceInAfrica #AfricanLeadership #FinancialServices #Innovation #Insurtech #FinancialInclusion #futureofinsurance
