In this episode, we travel to Kollengode to find out what makes Chali Annante Rawther Biryani one of the most talked-about traditional biriyanis in Kerala. Kollengode is one of the most picturesque villages in Palakkad, known for its lush paddy fields, peaceful countryside, and beautiful landscapes that have appeared in several Malayalam and South Indian movies. Our journey began from one such iconic paddy field before heading to the small yet legendary Chali Annante Biriyani Kada. As we reached the restaurant, locals were still enjoying their breakfast with hot parotta and beef fry. Inside the tiny kitchen, Chali Annan's wife was busy preparing the famous Rawther Biriyani using the traditional style that has attracted food lovers for years. Though the restaurant is small, its reputation stretches far beyond Kollengode. Almost a year ago, we visited the famous NMR Biriyani in Palakkad town. Chali Annante Rawther Biriyani reminded us of that same traditional Palakkad biriyani style, yet it had its own unique flavour, colour and character. Many people also refer to it as the Red Biriyani because of its distinctive appearance. Watching the entire biriyani-making process was a wonderful experience. Finally, we enjoyed the freshly prepared Chicken Rawther Biriyani served on a banana leaf along with my friend Nikhil and his father.
