What many people throw away as waste, Sonu Shetgaonkar from Morjim sees as a treasure waiting to be discovered. For the 58-year-old artisan from Morjim, coconut shells are not rubbish to be discarded or burnt, but a valuable resource that can be transformed into beautiful and practical works of art.
For over three decades, Sonu has created more than 100 products from coconut shells, including lampshades, cups, lanterns, spoons and decorative hanging items. His work reflects his creativity and determination to preserve traditional skills while making productive use of a natural resource readily available in Goa.
