How do you make a clip of a Dropout video? I recorded my screen using OBS Studio. Use two Sources: "Display Capture" for video and "Audio Output Capture" for sound. How do you get good subtitles? This is harder: 1. View the Dropout video on a desktop computer web browser. 2. Open your web browser's developer tools and go to the Network tab. 4. On the Dropout video player, click the button to show the transcript. (It's between the gear icon and the fullscreen icon.) 5. In the dev tools, look for a request to "captions.vimeo.com" with type "vtt" or "texttrack". This is a text file which contains all the captions for the entire video. 6. Right-click on that row in the network inspector then click "Open in new tab". You should see a file with "WEBVTT" at the top and then all the captions! 7. You can press ctrl+S/cmd+S to save the file to your computer, or you can copy/paste only the part you want. If the file gets saved with a .vtt file extension, rename the file to have a .txt file extension, or open the file in a plain-text editor like Notepad. 8. You must remove the sequence numbers and timestamps. To see why, consider an example two-minute clip recorded from a one hour Dropout video: the timestamps might be something like 01:01:20.130, but your clip is not one hour long, so the YouTube caption editor won't know what to do. 9. In the YouTube subtitles editor: if you see options for "Upload file", "Auto-sync", and "Type manually", choose Auto-sync. Otherwise, if you see a button for "Edit as text", click that button. If you see a button for "Edit timings" then you're already in the right mode. Copy and paste the text of the subtitles into there and YouTube will automatically do the timing. (You might also be able to choose "upload file" then "without timing".)
