The deceased, identified as Kabiraj Rout, had been lodged in Malkangiri Jail as an undertrial prisoner for nearly four years in a ganja case. After his health suddenly deteriorated yesterday, jail authorities admitted him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The family objected to the reported plan to send the body to Koraput for post-mortem and staged a protest outside the hospital’s main gate, demanding clarity over the post-mortem and the actual cause of death.
