In my view, Jacques Tati's "Mon Oncle" is where Tati realizes his observational power and unique cinematic brilliance as a director and actor, finding a place for Monseiur Hulot in the ultra-modern world of 1950s France. This video discusses and analyzes Mon Oncle as a playful attack on modernism, on gadgets that aren't made for humans, noises and fashion that are annoying, and yet Tati finds joy in life even in ugly or annoying places. The movie contrasts old neighborhoods with modern houses, and does that very well.
