Pilot Survives Water Landing After Plane Crashes Off Boca Raton Coast

Cellphone video captured the harrowing moment a twin-engine Piper plane crashed into the ocean off the coast of Boca Raton, Florida, on Saturday. The pilot, who miraculously survived, was flying from Fort Myers to an airport in the Bahamas to pick up her parents when she experienced sudden engine problems. Forced to make a split-second decision, the pilot stated that she intentionally chose to ditch the plane in the water, feeling it was a safer alternative to dodging buildings near the coast. Rescuers were able to pull her from the aircraft just before it began to sink beneath the waves. Recovery crews returned on Sunday to successfully remove the submerged plane from the ocean.
