Never Descend Wolf Creek Pass Without Knowing Where the Escape Ramps Are

Most truckers who lose their brakes on Wolf Creek Pass made their fatal mistake before they ever started down the mountain. This documentary follows the westbound descent of U.S. 160, beginning at the 10,857-foot summit and dropping more than eight miles toward Treasure Falls through some of Colorado's most unforgiving terrain. We map every critical point on the way down: the punishing 7% grade, the sharp hairpin roughly 6.5 miles below the summit, and the 25 mph limit that commercial drivers ignore at their peril. Between 2015 and 2019, CDOT recorded 47 semi-truck crashes on the west side and three driver deaths.
