In June 2010, Viviana Haeger, a 42-year-old accountant and mother of two, vanished from her home in Puerto Varas, southern Chile. Her husband received a strange call claiming she had been kidnapped. Police searched the house, soldiers and detectives combed the hills, and her face spread across the region. Forty-two days later, she was found inside that same house, in the attic above her own bedroom. What followed divided Chile for seven years: a ruling of suicide, three autopsies, police officers sanctioned for negligence, a shocking confession from a carpenter who claimed he had been hired, and a verdict almost no one saw coming. In 2017, a court acquitted her husband, Jaime Anguita, and convicted carpenter José Pérez Mancilla of robbery with homicide. But one question has never been fully answered: how did the search miss her for 42 days? This video is based on court rulings and reporting from Chilean news outlets. 🔔 Subscribe to Latin Crime Files for true crime stories from Latin America that most people in the U.S. have never heard of. #truecrime #chile #vivianahaeger
