Slant fin Stihl 044 chainsaw restoration project. Replacing piston & cylinder on this popular saw

Finally wrapped up the restoration project on this Stihl 044 chainsaw. This saw came into the shop and wouldn’t start at all. After inspecting the piston it was obvious that this saw would need a new top end. I did what I could to save the original slant fin cylinder, but at the end of the day it was scored too bad. I cleaned off as much of the transfer that I could but there were some pretty deep gouges in the cylinder wall. I used a HyWay top end to rebuild this saw. I have had good luck with HyWay so that is what I decided to use on this saw. Once I got the saw put back together I determined that the carburetor needed to be replaced. The OEM Zama was no longer available so I had to convert a Walbro to fit. After replacing the carburetor the saw popped right off and worked great.
