The Truth About High School in 2026 - with Jeremy Schmidt

High school looks a lot different than it did 10 or 20 years ago—but some of the biggest challenges facing teenagers haven't changed at all. On this episode of The Road Ahead, we're joined by Jeremy Schmidt, Superintendent of Grant Community High School, for a conversation about what it takes to prepare students for life after graduation. We talk about how AI is being handled in the classroom, the role of cell phones and technology in education, how discipline has evolved, and why the traditional "graduate, go to college, get a job" path isn't the only definition of success. Jeremy also shares how Grant is creating opportunities for students interested in trades, certifications, dual-credit courses, college, the military, and entering the workforce—and why his advice to students is simple: choose the opportunities that open more doors. Plus, we look at what has—and hasn't—changed about being a teenager and why the influence of a great teacher can stick with someone for decades.
